italk Studios has produced new stories as a contribution to the public health campaign on the COVID-19 pandemic.
We’ve made three stories — one on symptoms, one on exponential growth, and one on transmission.
The stories are in multiple languages, including Indonesian, French, Italian, German, Warlpiri, and English. We are also working on translating them in Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte. If you’d like them made in your language, please let us know!
The Symptoms Story explains some of the common symptoms of COVID-19. These include fever, shortness of breath, and coughing. If you have any of these symptoms, please stay at home and contact your local healthcare provider.
It is important to note that you can carry the virus and have no symptoms, which is why our story on Exponential Growth is important.
If you contract the virus you can still transmit it to others, even if you have no signs or symptoms. The people you pass it on to can pass it on to others. Pretty soon, lots of people are carriers of the virus, even if they have no signs or symptoms. People who are old, have compromised immune symptoms or respiratory diseases are at increased risk of severe complications and death.
Testing for coronavirus is not yet widespread–it is “prioritised for people who have certain symptoms and have a greater chance of being infected.”1.
That’s why it’s important for you to do the right thing by staying inside, keeping 2 meters of distance between you and other people, and washing your hands frequently. These actions help slow the rate of transmission.
Using proper hygiene methods, like sneezing into your elbow, not touching your face, and washing your hands often will also help keep you and others safe. That’s the message of our Transmission Story.
Unlike the coronavirus, we want these videos to spread! Please use these resources and share them with others. If you would like them tailored to your communities, please get in touch with us.
